Mentoring Program
ADO offers a mentoring program to support colleagues new to the fundraising profession. This program was launched in 2004-05, when we matched 10 Mentor-Mentoree pairs.
Through our mentoring program, experienced development professionals who are ADO members are matched to those who are new to or interested in the field. Mentoring may take several forms, depending on the needs and level of experience of the Mentoree and the time and availability of a Mentor. It can include quick meetings, phone calls, e-mails, guidance for job search, or even the opportunity for “shadowing.” Mentoring especially can help an individual who has landed a new job, but may feel overwhelmed and need advice. Mentoring usually is general, but sometimes can relate to very specific development areas.
Mentors/mentorees MUST be ADO members
A Mentoree can be a professional in another field who wants to make a switch to fundraising. Or perhaps a new college graduate who wants to enter the field of development. Mentorees can also come from the new Fundraising Class at Purchase College, or as referrals from Development Directions. We will do our best to match Mentors and Mentorees based on their experience, interests and sector (education, health, the arts, for-profit consulting).
